Comparisons Between the Ancient Greeks and Romans

I will try to compare two huge and important civilizations that changed the way of looking the world, both had a lot of inventions, and changed the history, greeks will be always remembered as the first philosophers and Romans will be always remebered as the first comerce man.

The Ancient Greeks and Romans both began their histories as cities. In the case of greece the cities were very separated one of another so they didnt suffer of imigration. In the other hand cities of italy where very near, so rome suffer a lot of imigration during their times.

Greek art is considered superior to Roman art. The goal of the classical Greek sculptors was to produce an ideal artistic form, while the goal of Roman artists was to produce realistic portraits for decoration. the art we associate with Greece is the Venus de Milo, and the Roman art is the mosaic or wall painting known as fresco.

The economy of both Greece and Rome was based on agriculture. Greeks ideally lived on small wheat producing farms, but bad agricultural practices made many farmers incapable of feeding themselves. Comparing toThe Romans, who imported their wheat and annexed provinces that could provide them with this. The comerce was very important for Romans but the Greeks considered such occupations degrading. In the cities, manufacturing went on. Both Greece and Rome worked mines. While Greece had slaves but wasnt dependent on it, the economy of Rome was dependent on slave labor until the late Empire
Woman had to be accompanied in public places. She could own, but not sell property. The Athenian woman was subject to her father, and even after marriage, he could ask for her return. She was not a citizen.
The Roman woman could own and dispose of property and go about as she wished. Roman woman was valued for piety, modesty, maintenance of harmony, and being a one-man woman. She could be a Roman citizen.
The Athenians were originally governed by kings, then by an oligarchy, and then by democracy (voting by the citizens). On the contrary The Romans were originally governed by kings, then by a mixed Republican form, and then by emperors.
Concluding we can see a lot of differences between them, we can also add that they existed during different times, but both civilizations are examples of order, strategy and intelligence, also people will remeber them for they exelent leaders, who led them trought the pass of times

INVENTIONS IN ANCIENT ROME

The Romans had one of the largest empires, because they had the ability to build different architectures that had helped him advance in his time. The civil engineering was one of the basic pillars upon which was built the Roman Empire. The most important architectures of the Roman Empire were the network of roads, bridges and aqueducts. Some of architectures that the Romans built their empire exist today. The Roman engineering built a great network of roads. The network of roads were very important in the Roman Empire because the Romans had a pretty big empire. The cities were connected by roads that were built by digging a trench and filled with stones of different thicknesses up levelling the ground and covering the last layer with flat stones. Without the network of roads communication of the Romans would have been difficult because the roads network gave the Romans the ability to communicate faster. The extensive network of roads was very important for the military. The ease of movement with the network of roads in the Roman Empire gave an advantage to the Romans when they had to move elsewhere. The Roman engineering also built several bridges. The bridges that engineers have built many similar Romans. All bridges have an arc below and above the bridge was flat. The bridge was made of stones and the roads were not more than five meters wide. The Roman engineers were true masters in their construction, as were key elements for access to cities, with intent that were in the vicinity of rivers. The bridges were built on the rule of the Romans were very important for the defense and also to enter some cities which were separated by several rivers. Some of the bridges that still exist these days are the bridge of Salamanca, Merida bridge and the bridge of Alcantara. Some of the bridges that were constructed by Roman engineers still are being used without compensation and that some are using it repaired. The engineering of the Romans was responsible for building some aqueducts. The aqueducts were built with cement channels to test water and were covered with stone slabs. The aqueducts were very important for the Roman Empire because without taking aqueducts cities had extensive destruction by the geography of their premises. The aqueducts were built to save the landforms that existed between the springs or rivers and cities. The aqueducts were important for civilians because the water that was used to sustain life was aqueducts. The Romans spent much of the public purse to the maintenance of these facilities to ensure the constant supply of fresh water and clean. The most famous aqueduct in the Roman Empire is the aqueduct in Segovia. The aqueduct in Segovia, Spain still can be seen in Spain because it has not been destroyed. Other major aqueducts of the Roman Empire are the Aqueduct de los Milagros, Aqueduct San Lazaro, and Aqueduct Ferreres.

We can notice the advantages that the romans have, over the other empires, also the bridges the road and the aqueducts are a little group of the things that the roman invented, that changed the world and made things easier for the people all over the world.
