Comparisons Between the Ancient Greeks and Romans

I will try to compare two huge and important civilizations that changed the way of looking the world, both had a lot of inventions, and changed the history, greeks will be always remembered as the first philosophers and Romans will be always remebered as the first comerce man.

The Ancient Greeks and Romans both began their histories as cities. In the case of greece the cities were very separated one of another so they didnt suffer of imigration. In the other hand cities of italy where very near, so rome suffer a lot of imigration during their times.

Greek art is considered superior to Roman art. The goal of the classical Greek sculptors was to produce an ideal artistic form, while the goal of Roman artists was to produce realistic portraits for decoration. the art we associate with Greece is the Venus de Milo, and the Roman art is the mosaic or wall painting known as fresco.

The economy of both Greece and Rome was based on agriculture. Greeks ideally lived on small wheat producing farms, but bad agricultural practices made many farmers incapable of feeding themselves. Comparing toThe Romans, who imported their wheat and annexed provinces that could provide them with this. The comerce was very important for Romans but the Greeks considered such occupations degrading. In the cities, manufacturing went on. Both Greece and Rome worked mines. While Greece had slaves but wasnt dependent on it, the economy of Rome was dependent on slave labor until the late Empire
Woman had to be accompanied in public places. She could own, but not sell property. The Athenian woman was subject to her father, and even after marriage, he could ask for her return. She was not a citizen.
The Roman woman could own and dispose of property and go about as she wished. Roman woman was valued for piety, modesty, maintenance of harmony, and being a one-man woman. She could be a Roman citizen.
The Athenians were originally governed by kings, then by an oligarchy, and then by democracy (voting by the citizens). On the contrary The Romans were originally governed by kings, then by a mixed Republican form, and then by emperors.
Concluding we can see a lot of differences between them, we can also add that they existed during different times, but both civilizations are examples of order, strategy and intelligence, also people will remeber them for they exelent leaders, who led them trought the pass of times
